Walmart was founded by Sam Walton on July 2, 1962. The first Walmart store was located in Rogers, Arkansas, and it was called “Walton’s Five and Dime.” The store was later renamed as Walmart in 1968.
Walmart started as a small chain of discount department stores, but it has grown to become one of the largest retailers in the world, with over 11,000 stores in 27 countries, under a total of 59 different names. Today, Walmart is considered the world’s largest company by revenue and is one of the largest employers in the world.
